Rifle
Targets from a few metres out to 300 m. Long-range accuracy, varied positions and the same timer.
In short
Rifle brings distance to practical shooting: standing, prone or supported, and knowing your ballistics matters on the long targets. IPSC recommends 30% of targets under 60 m, 50% between 60 and 150 m and 20% between 150 and 300 m.
Being an outdoor sport, wind and light affect scores. Top competitors are often squadded together so they shoot in conditions as similar as possible.
-
Start position
Usually with the butt of the rifle touching the hip.
-
Minor or Major
Minor calibres rule short range thanks to low recoil; Major helps on long targets.
-
Chamber flag
Long guns carry a brightly coloured chamber flag whenever they are not in use.

Everyone shoots the same courses; standings are worked out per division. Pick a division to see its rules.
